Re: Hey what's up Dawg? (Generic Chat Thread)

That's a cool goal! I've sort of had that kind of passion beat out of me by real work, so hold onto that. And don't worry, there's lots of good tutorials for stuff like that. I didn't mean to imply your terminating condition was wrong, I just wanted to emphasize that's the key to good recursion. For...

Re: Hey what's up Dawg? (Generic Chat Thread)

If a tree is balanced correctly, than the traversal order itself mathematically guarantees smallest to greatest. Because you're comparing as you go, it's not possible to get the wrong number if you code it correctly. Because you don't print until you reach a null, and you can't reach a null until yo...

Re: Hey what's up Dawg? (Generic Chat Thread)

Recursion is very tricky to understand initially, but it's actually very simple when you do. It's just a function calling itself. Since a function is just an arbitrary piece of code, there's no reason it can't call itself. It's most useful when you're navigating a data structure you don't have preci...

Re: Whatcha playing?

I still haven't finished the original. I love Larian games but the format of original sin never really gripped me. I'll get to it eventually. I picked up a lot of new games this month but I've barely had time to play them. The one I have that I would strongly recommend is Mario Odyssey. It's like we...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

That's a good take on things. The only thing I'd disagree with is your comments about Joi. I believe it's left intentionally vague whether or not Joi really loves K, or is just programmed to. More specifically, I think it's an extension of the question from the original BR, does it matter if somethi...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

Sounds like good shit. The premise to that moon base one is pretty solid sci fi. Helium 3 is considered a good candidate for a fuel source if cold fusion is ever figured out, as it produces very little radiation. And it's believed a lot of it might be on the moon's regolith due to billions of years ...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

Never heard of that book, but I'm interested in it now too. See, this is what's great about pure sci fi. It's not always the best thing you can watch, but fuck if it doesn't invade your brain and really ask tough questions. A good premise really sticks around in a way most other films just can't, ev...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

It definitely grows on you. I thought about it a lot today. And the more I thought about it, the more I liked it. It really is an achievement, even if it falls a little short overall. Joi's scenes were actually my favorite. Along with the scene on the way to the end, where K realizes he thinks his n...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

Just saw Blade Runner 2049. Had a similar opinion to you ydte. It was pretty good, bit definitely short of great. There were parts of it that were legitimately phenomenal, and some of the gut punching twists and individual scenes had incredible visual metaphors and were just excellent film making. B...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

Just saw that Netflix movie, Gerald's Game. It was a little campy and melodramatic, but it's pretty creepy and disturbing. Not a bad start to Halloween month. Looking to binge lots of horror games and movies this month.

Re: The MOVIE Thread

Twin Peaks is pretty funny too. It's not dark and weird the whole time.

Re: Whatcha playing?

I've been playing a hell of a lot of XCOM recently. I picked up XCOM 2 when it went on sale along with its expansion War of the Chosen. I just finished it and it was great. I recommend both it and the original highly. Then I picked up the old DOS version and beat it, and have been playing through it...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

The original is good, you definitely have to start there. The new season expects you to remember *everything.* Make sure to also watch Fire Walk With Me after you're done with the original. It's relevant too. The whole series is kind of a trainwreck, so the new season isn't unique in that sense. But...

Re: The MOVIE Thread

I really didn't like how the new season of Twin Peaks ended. The last two or three episodes were wack. It's good up until that though. Have you seen the original?
