mediocrity is mediocrity, i don't see what prior MMO stories have to do with it

it has... everything to do with it?

being exposed to mediocrity for so long has essentially desensitized me to the point where i just don't care anymore. that's no excuse to keep putting out garbage, but every MMO (that I've played) has sucked in that aspect so I'm kinda over it. I look at them much differently from other games, but I don't blame those who don't. do understand that I'm not against an MMO having a good story rather it's the last thing I care about when I'm constantly fed mounds of crap.

perhaps you thought I was speaking for everyone instead of myself?

haha, i get that that is your reason - what i mean is i don't understand shrugging off mediocrity for any reason, desensitisation or otherwise

well again it's about how i play MMOs. an MMO to me is all about its gameplay and its world (i.e. scope, graphics, interesting locations). playing with my friends, grouping up with tons of people to tackle challenges, exploring a huge world, collecting gear to get more powerful etc - that's fun to me. granted it has to be done right, but when it is it's enough to outweigh a crappy story. it shouldn't be that way, but there's some kind of ignorance in how to tell a good story in an MMO or these developer's writing departments all coincidentally suck and its really rubbed off on me to the point where I can forgive so long as the game is fun.

i don't know how else i can explain it :(

nooo you are explaining the wrong thing! i am not asking for an explanation, anyway. of course other stuff can outweigh a crappy story, the attitude i'm referring to is apathy towards a mediocre element of a thing rather than acknowledging it as a fault. the fact it doesn't undermine the rest of the experience doesn't cancel it out.

i only bring it up because this attitude is particularly common in the video game industry, where people often say things like 'well it's a bad story but so are most video games' as if that defends anything in any way. not that you said that, it's just a related thing - there is a culture of shrugging off mediocrity purely because it's become some kind of standard, which is just the stinkiest barge load of nonsense

oh whoops okay i was confused

no it's definitely a fault. like i said before it's not an excuse, at all, to keep churning out crap simply because other MMOs are doing it. i don't think i came across that way, but if i did then my bad. however the trend set by these MMOs is a social experience (god i hate saying that) whereby you tackle challenges, explore a vast world and progress your avatar. that doesn't mean it's okay to have a shitty story - it just matters the least to me because that's what i like most in MMOs. it's really fucking late here so hopefully this is making sense

well picked it up today, seems pretty cool. only shitty part is my laptop can barely run it, it looks so bad. have everything on low settings and only get 45 fps.

well my acct is Fourloko.6397 but not sure how much I'll be playing, guess it's time to upgrade the video card!
