Fallout 1&2

Post by Gordon Frohman » Fri Apr 06, 2012 20:29

So Fallout 1 was free on GOG, and who can resist free games like this?

This was my first time playing Fallout 1. I played Fallout 2 but couldn't get into it. So I said fuck it, I'm going to play this until I do get into it. Now, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I see what everyone was fussing about now.

Grabbed Fallout 2 on Steam, and will try to get into it again.

What do you all think of these two games?

I feel pretty much the exact same way. I played Fallout one all the way to the end (but it crashed on the very last dungeon so I had to watch the ending online).

It was way ahead of its time and I think it still holds up as a great (albeit slow paced) game today.

I had the same problem with Fallout 2. It was interesting, but I just never really got into it so I never finished it. I heard that, in many ways, it's supposed to be even better than the original. But it was really time consuming so I just gave up on it once you got to that big city built by the GECK.

Man, I get crashing mroe than I should and I got a corrupt save last night... hope I can finish the game at least.

Definitely ahead of its time. But if you almost finished the first, what was wrong with the second? I could see you talking about the first part in the tribal village.

It took too long to get powerful and to get somewhere cool in the story. Too much grinding and saving and reloading when you (inevitably) failed a super hard fight/ Too much running around.

Nothing wrong with any of that but I just lost interest after like 5 or 6 hours.

I highly recommend you do.

So I beat Fallout 1 last night. What a great game. Now, I'm on Fallout 2 and am doing things around Klamath and damn, I'm slapping myself for not giving these games the time of day.

I'd have to say F2 is better than the first, though. When people (especially old fans) bitch about Fallout 3 and New Vegas being so different and, dare I say, not as good, I can see why. I still prefer Fallout 3 and New Vegas simply for the combat and it being first person, but fuck man, F1 and F2 are fucking FANTASTIC. The RPG mechanics of both are better than Fallout 3 and New Vegas', the dialogue is better, etc...

Saladin, give it another try.

Of course it's better, it's Black Isle.

I never uninstalled it, it's just sitting on the desktop. If I have time, I'll boot it up again and see if I can get through it.

No worries, got through it fine. Fallout 2 is so great, AND more stable.

Oi mon. I ruined those gaming experiences for myself by watching speed runs of those game, so when I got around to playing 'em, I just ran around killing everything.
