My dog of 11 years may die soon ;_;

Post by Gordon Frohman » Tue Sep 16, 2014 02:29

Hold me bros, I can't do this. His breathing is cocked and he can barely get up on his own anymore.

He's a Golden Retriever and they only live 11-12 years, so...

But still. My night is gone. My other dog died last year. This is totally lame and not cool guys. Not cool at all.

Thanks all. It's nice to have support here.

We're keeping watch. All we can do is cherish the time we have, and if he lives another day, we have him for another day.

Why can't dogs live as long as humans. Such special creatures who're only with us for a little while. Fucking lame, man, Totally lame.

When it passes, take solaces that it's not in pain anymore, and that you gave it a nice life.

Been there done that twice in my life. It takes me a long time to be able to look at another dog. But I'm one of those people that a house is not a "home" without a furry four legged critter greeting you at the door. I feel for ya man, and I know there is nothing anyone can say or do in these times.

Never forget all the fun times.

Don't ever EVER leave the room, stay until the very end.

Of course. ^ Right now he's holding up, but we still feel the time is coming soon.

I have 2 dogs as of now, the one I'm talking about in this thread I'm not as close to as my other one - I'd literally be fucking devastated if my Yellow Lab died. I will more than likely be too depressed to leave my room once he goes, and he's 8 right now - hopefully I get another good 5-7 years with him.

But my Golden, he replaced our dog that died 11 years ago, I grew up with that damn animal, and she up and died suddenly. Then my other one died last year, but he didn't die alone, thankfully. It seriously is lame that whoever or whatever created us also created such a wonderful species that is only with us for a little while. That's why they need to make pot-bellied elephants - elephants are so damn smart and emotional and they live for fucking ever. It's too hard dealing with dog loss bro, but I can never be in a house without one. Best pets you can have, and you'll never have a better friend.

So we're putting him down tomorrow. We're giving him some burgers and extra love right now. Been too busy crying today and yesterday to do anything else.

I just feel like we're killing him. He can't stand up for long, and if he does, he collapses after a minute or so. Can't get up to eat or drink, shits and pisses on himself. No dignity. No quality of life.

Fuck me. This is the worst I've felt in a long time. I wonder if this gets any easier.

I don't even know why I'm posting this. Being vulnerable on a forum full of strangers (that I've known for a long damn time). Comfort, I guess?

I guess I just need reassurance that we're easing his suffering, not killing him.

Putting him down is the best thing you can do for him right now. Cherish the happy memories and remember that all the good times with him were worth it :)

I'm sorry to hear that man. I know how pets become like members of the family, and how easy it is to feel guilty and helpless when they're struggling and in pain and you can't help them.

I'm sure that he wants you to be there for him in his last moments, so even just doing that is the best thing you can do.

I'm so sorry dude. It's not fair.

I've always seen dogs as like this character foil for the human race. It's like no matter how horrible the world is, or how evil someone can be, animals just have this unconditional and raw love for the creatures they let in. Dogs are our eternal companions in this crazy progression our species has undergone and we owe it to them. They're family, but they're more than just a sibling or a relative, they're a reminder that deep down there is a need to share love, and they just supply it in such a profoundly simple way that it shows you how simple life really is. You don't need words or gifts, just some time together where you're allowed to be yourself. They let you know that it's ok to be who you are.
