THIS x9999

best modern horror film of all time, no question. (Swedish version)

lol, maybe not of all time but these days, yes, this is the direction the genre needs to go in. Eli is amazing.

i did an HD rental off amazon, but not sure what you have available. if you just want to rent and can't find a cheaper way i can buy the rental for you and you can just watch it off a dummy amazon account and paypal me the funds (4.99 usd)

i use a vpn service so no worries. i'll give amazon instant a shot, but itunes has it for HD rental anyway as a backup so i should be covered either way. thanks though!

so, what did you think Ransom? I loved it, but I can see why people can hate on it. It is creepy yet makes sense as far as a narrative goes. The only gripe I have about it is the child actor, he smiles in scenes that are supposed to be scary but HE'S FUCKING SMILING! ugh, other than that, totally worth.

just finished watching it. really liked it in the end. i went back and forth on that over the course of the film.
i was glued to the screen for the first half, then during the second half i started to lose sympathy for both characters and became kind of frustrated. it flails around a bit in that space where i guess both characters are under the influence of the babadook—the kid is an impossible piece of shit and the mother is a horrible human being. who do i root for, the babadook????

then the film finally played its hand and everything after the mother became 'possessed' was excellent. the ending felt very earned and i loved how things came together. the finale where she makes a stand and basically tells the babadook to fuck off actually caught me so much by surprise i teared up, which was about the last thing i expected from this movie. it was such a genuinely triumphant moment for this character who had been so powerless, repressed and victimised, against an enemy as seemingly insurmountable as it was intangible, in a film with such an emotionally bleak tone i'd abandoned hope.

i also appreciated its commitment to its themes. it's no mystery that the film's about loss (i now see that on the netflix cover art the babadook even looks like a gravestone), but respects the complexity of its subject matter as well as your intelligence to put the details together, and isn't afraid to be a little grimly honest. you can't get rid of the babadook, indeed.
in short, properly unnerving and cogent. left me something to chew on, which is a rare gift from a horror film. great recommendation guys!
