3:4 Scale Weighted Companion Cube created out of LEGOS!

Post by MrAwesome » Fri Aug 01, 2008 06:28

Yesterday I began designing a Companion Cube (from Portal) to be built of out LEGOs, with the LDD (LEGO Digital Designer). By next Friday, or earlier (if I don't run into too many issues), I should complete the digital build of the Cube, which will be about 3/4 of the actual size. Once completed, the Cube will cost about +1200 for materials and $150 for design and assembly. Totaling around $1350.

Once completed with LDD, I will order the bricks and build the Cube. Then when it is finished I will open an auction on Ebay (final dimensions will also be posted) to sell the Cube.

Please reply stating whether this price is too high or too low - ya right :P - or vote in the poll, thanks

I will keep this thread updated with pictures of my progress.

ok everyone, scratch that. I have begun redesigning a much smaller Companion Cube out of LEGOs at a much cheaper price. It will be about 7.5"x7.5"x7.5"

although a nearly life size LEGO model of the cube would have been very cool, I finally realized that it would have costed way to much. And investing in such an exspensive model with very little market interest was not a good idea, so a much smaller and affordable companion cube is in the works

ps - the change in price so far is thus: the original heart and circle (pictured in my previous post) cost around $100, the new smaller one I just finished costs $13! here it is:

Are you actually building CCs in real life, or virtual CCs?

First I'm building a CC with LEGOs virtually, then once completed on the computer, I'll be building it in real life.

ya, i'll be building one at first, then selling it on eBay. I'm guessing it will be around $250, but that price will only be set once I've completed building it on the computer.

btw: here it is after today:

Mr. Smith, we don't need to hear about your overly-perverse tendencies. Unless you'd be willing to put the Companion Cube up your ass, at least that would be on topic and would probably go down well in the Half-Life community.
