I guess what I was getting at is that how well the label sci-fi fits is very much reliant on how removing the content from the setting would change the story, if it could be done at all.

I still don't comprehend the boner-killer though. No setting, even if it was mystical pink-unicorns, would turn me off to a good story.

An author's politics do though. After learning that James Clavell was a rabid fan of Ayn Rand, I could never pick up one of his books ever again.

I never said it made sense :P

and yeah Orson's crazy views really made me question whether or not I wanna pick up the rest of the Ender series.

What's up with Mormons writing popular books? The chick that wrote Twilight was a Mormon too.

Ironically, my friend and I were talking about this book today. I personally have not read it, nor have any desire to do so. But my friend on the other hand, swears by it.

Not ironic, just a coincidence. Ironic would be if your friend said no one talks or cares about Ender's Game and then you read this. Irony is an outcome which is opposite the expectation. Freezing to death in an oven is ironic. Dying of heat stroke in Death Valley is not.

But yeah, check it out. It's a short read and it's very enthralling.

I may have failed to mention that he did indeed say that nobody has heard of it..
