This. Except I gave up on cursive when my high school teachers told me to print my letters out. Then it got worse in college when all my professors wanted everything typed instead of written.

what the hell happened to caligraphy? That shit is majestic as fuck

I find that after taking typography courses I unconsciously focus on my written letterforms more, even when just jotting down quick notes

i'm satisfied with the readability of my freehand but not with how ugly it is. lately i've been putting some effort into breaking out of my bad writing habits with moderate success

on a related topic i am fascinated by medieval typography. it's horrifyingly florid but so beautiful to watch a calligrapher write it. watch this: http://vimeo.com/60241818

it's faster and often prettier. unfortunately it's completely illegible to anyone who doesn't read it on a regular basis
